Magic War Legends 9+

I’m a big fan of the HOMM series, and I’ve enjoyed aspects of this game. I made a few in-app purchases to get me started then grew mostly through smart timing of event participation. Which is where I’ll start to echo previous commenters. I’ve opened chests that didn’t work. Events that don’t provide promised rewards.

Today I was #1 in my arena event when the timer hit zero. But then I get the award for being #93 with no way in game to request support?

Developer site doesn’t even list this game title, although it has a different name with the same cover art. I’ll keep playing, but no more in-app purchases for me.

All the negative reviews about this game are right. It’s a pointless game and barely is worth being considered as a time killer.

The only things to do in this game are colosseum battles against bots (which also puts you in a fake ladder vs just bots attempting to fool you that there is actual competition) and battles on the world map/dungeons/events. There is no level of castle building or heroes or any other strategic gameplay other than the battle system.

DON’T SPEND MONEY on this game to build a better army. The game is coded where it will scale the game in difficulty as you gain more power in units almost entirely cancelling out any attempt to really create an unstoppable force to get through things easier. I think it mostly takes effect when you enter a new zone. So if you’re in a current zone you won’t see the power scaling but once you enter a new area or event it will be ramped up severely. This can be mostly seen in bronze key dungeons if you visit them later on rather than earlier and in the events they hold. So if you intend on playing this just use what you get without paying. It’s a pointless sham.

Tries to be like Heroes of Might and Magic, but there are key differences that keep it from really being a good game. The main one is that any units you lose in a battle are automatically regained over a short period of time (seconds to minutes). So there's never any risk of doing a fight. Second, there are no enemy heroes, no castles to capture that give you more skills and units, in fact no unit generators at all (since you don't permanently lose units they're not necessary), and no story. So there's no real incentive to play other than collecting more units and heroes and upgrading them (and your hero).

The art and sounds are fine, though nothing amazing. Combat is pretty similar to HoMaM at least, which is the highlight of the game. There is map exploration, but it's mostly linear - it's really just to go from one fight and treasure to the next.

There's one bug I've found too - the videos to watch to give you free resources and units don't work about 1/3 of the time - you watch the video but don't get the reward. So you have to watch another to get the reward. 😒
